Waging War on Hunger
As the number of those in need continues to grow, Mountaire Farms is committed to expanding company programs designed to help the less fortunate families and individuals who call the Delmarva Peninsula home. Mountaire's Thanksgiving for Thousands has experienced sixteen consecutive years of growth, feeding a record 45,000 people in 2010 formed Waging War on Hunger - Hurt & Hate, a program designed to help raise funds and food supplies to ensure the continued growth of Thanksgiving for Thousands, as well as, provide a means to help area shelters, pantries and soup kitchens year round.
In 2011 Waging War on Hunger, Hurt & Hate expanded to include a fundraiser banquet as well as a month long food drive held on Saturday's throughout October. This effort allowed Thanksgiving for Thousands to grow to nearly 7,000 meal boxes and put the gears in motion to provide Thanksgiving at Christmas, during which Mountaire was able to provide over 8,000 lbs of fresh poultry and 12,000 lbs of canned goods to Delmarva area food pantries the week before Christmas.
With support from local American Legion Veterans, an Army of Volunteers has taken shape, but we need your help in order to extend our reach across the Peninsula for help with fundraisers and food drives planned for 2012.
"Our goal throughout the year is to create within the community where we live, work, play and pray, a membership of voluntary leaders who will collectively strive to reach out to those in need by developing a series of mechanisms to provide food, shelter, jobs and the opportunity for education to those in need, and in turn stimulate the affluence of hope, faith and economic development.
We will work with local food stores, non-profit organizations, community leaders, governmental bodies, and educational institutions to cultivate an Army of agricultural advocates.
We are offering you an opportunity to lock hands with us and join our growing Army of American Legion Veterans, Church Leaders & Community Activists as we continue throughout the year to stem the roaring tide of hunger on Delmarva." - Roger Marino, Mountaire Corporate Community Relations Director
