Thanksgiving for Thousands

3rd Thanksgiving for Thousands at Christmas

Despite cold temperatures, volunteers from the American Legion and community came together on Tuesday, December 17th, to fill more than 1200 meal boxes. This year, due to a late Thanksgiving holiday, the meal boxes were donated to food banks and food pantries that get monthly chicken contributions from Mountaire.

Volunteers started packing boxes around 8:30 a.m. and by 10 a.m. all the boxes were filled and ready to be picked up. Each meal box contained a Mountaire Chicken Roaster, cans of corn, green beans, yams, cranberry sauce, gravy, a box of stuffing mix, and a box of brownie mix. The goal of our program is to help provide a nutritious meal to needy families on Delmarva this Christmas season.

3rd Annual Thanksgiving for Thousands Christmas Food Drive

Despite bitter cold temperatures and what could have been a rainy day, hundreds turned out for the Mountaire Thanksgiving for Thousands Christmas food drive. Volunteers handed out shopping lists at Giant in Salisbury and Hocker’s in Ocean View. Shoppers returns with bags full of corn, green beans, yams, gravy, cranberry sauce, stuffing mix, and browning mix.

Food was collected starting just before 10 a.m. and people were still dropping off food and money at 2 p.m.

We want to thank our volunteers who helped with collecting. A big thank you to Hocker’s in Ocean View and Giant in Salisbury for hosting our food drive. This year’s food drive was a partnership with Mountaire, Cat Country, and WMDT.

Our food boxes will be filled at a later date to be distributed to food pantries on Delmarva who get monthly chicken donations from Mountaire.

19th Annual Thanksgiving for Thousands

It was another successful packing day for Mountaire Farms. On Saturday, November 23rd, about a hundred volunteers packed 2200 boxes at our Delaware & North Carolina Lumber Bridge, North Carolina, location. Then, on Monday, November 25, hundreds filled our Selbyville, Delaware, warehouse to fill more than 7400 boxes. Each box contained corn, green beans, yams, cranberry sauce, gravy, boxed stuffing, boxed brownie mix, and a Mountaire roaster.

Once the boxes were filled they were delivered to needy people who pre-registered on Delmarva and the Lumber Bridge, North Carolina area. Each box provides a nutritious meal to feed a family of five.

Mountaire would like to thank all our volunteers who helped collect food, pack boxes, and distribute food. To learn more about this year’s Thanksgiving for Thousands program in North Carolina and Delmarva click on the 19th Annual Thanksgiving for Thousands under the In the Community tab.

About Thanksgiving for Thousands:

Mountaire’s Thanksgiving for Thousands began eighteen years ago when Mountaire and members at the Dagsboro Church of God developed a new format to help feed those Delmarva residents in need around the Thanksgiving Holiday.  The goal being to get away from the traditional table-served meals made available at area shelters and provide a means to prepare a Thanksgiving dinner in the traditional sense from the privacy of home.  Individuals or families in our Delmarva Community who reach out for help through requests to food banks, churches and governmental agencies can receive a Thanksgiving for Thousands box filled with the staple foods needed to prepare a meal for the entire household.  Each box will contain a plump Mountaire roaster, (2) 16 oz. cans of corn, string beans, peas, pork & beans, yams, gravy and cranberries; plus a box of brownie mix & stuffing mix, .  Our belief is that by selecting a nutritious array of staple food and a bird, recipients may cook the meal from the confines of their own home to their own culture and taste.
..In 2012 the program helped feed over 50,000 individuals across Delmarva.

"Feed-A-Family" campaign:  Thanks to Mountaire's partnership with the Delaware Community Foundation you can donate $10 or more to the Mountaire Thanksgiving for Thousands Fund and help us feed another family in need this holiday season.  Each $10 donation creates another meal box from the program.  To donate via credit card or check please click on the link

Your donation is not a purchase of a meal box for personal use, all donated monies go to purchase food to create additional meal boxes for those registered to receive help through the program.
