WBOC/Mountaire Farms Scholar Athlete Award
Bryan Selby of Holly Grove Christian School
Holly Grove Christians’ Bryan Selby is the big man on campus. Not just because he towers over his peers in the hallway, but because he leads them on the athletic fields and sets a great example in the classroom and other extra-curricular activities; which is why he was honored as the WBOC/Mountaire Scholar Athlete of the Month for May 2013. For his efforts Byran will receive a crystal engraved trophy, a banner to display at his school and a $1,000 college scholarship.
The WBOC/Mountaire Scholar Athlete of the Month Award is an honor reserved for those high school seniors who demonstrate excellence and leadership in three key arenas; athletics, academics and extra-curricular activities.
Athletically, Bryan Selby is head and shoulders above the competition. Standing well over six feet tall this young man is a force in any sport, but really stands out on the soccer field. This past season the captain netted 29 of the teams 70 total goals in leading them to a 14-6 overall record and a playoff victory of the #1 seed and defending champions, Greater Grace High School. In that 3-2 victory, Bryan scored two goals and assisted on another. After the soccer season Selby takes his talents to the basketball court where he is a talented big man.
Academically, Bryan sports a 4.06 GPA, his only “B” in high school coming as a freshman. An impressive feat considering he is enrolled in all Honors and Advanced Placement courses. Beyond the classroom Bryan is active in the school clothing and food drives to which help area programs in need.
For all his efforts on the field, in the classroom and in the community, Bryan Selby was honored with the WBOC/Mountaire Scholar Athlete of the Month Award for May 2013.

Our local communities have many outstanding young individuals that Mountaire felt could be an inspiration to the rest of us if there was a way to recognize and call attention to their hard work, commitment to excellence, and team leadership. To accomplish this goal WBOC-TV 16 and Mountaire Farms joined together to create this unique program to highlight and honor outstanding student athletes on Delmarva. Each month, this award will recognize a male or female athlete in his/her senior year from one Delmarva High School, who carries a "B" average or higher. Nominees need to also be recognized by their coaches for outstanding sportsmanship and perform with superior ability in athletic competition.
Each month, the selected WBOC/ Mountaire Farms Scholar Athlete will receive an engraved crystal trophy recognizing him/her as the monthly honoree, a banner to display inside their school, and they will be featured in a 2-3 minute vignette with a WBOC Sports Director Scott Abraham (at his/her school). This vignette will spotlight our Scholar Athletes academic and athletic performance and be aired on WBOC-TV/FOX21, as well as featured on the WBOC-TV Sports Web site. Honorees will also be highlighted in Mountaire Farms quarterly newsletter, which is distributed throughout Delmarva. Each monthly WBOC/ Mountaire Farms Scholar Athlete will also receive a $1,000 college scholarship from Mountaire, which will be presented at school years end during a special awards function. At this year end fucntion one male and one female athlete scholar athlete will be named the "WBOC/Mountaire Farms Scholar Athletes of the Year." Both will receive an additional $2,500 in scholarship money.
