The Musick Praise Team Wins Mountaire’s Annual Delmarva Praise & Worship Competition 

The ultra-talented group from the Philadelphia Pentecostal Apostolic Church in Ellendale, DE, emerged from the eight team field as this year’s winner. 

An inspired effort by the praise team Musick was the stand out performance at this past Saturday’s Delmarva Praise & Worship Competition held at Epworth United Methodist Church in Rehoboth Beach, DE.  A cold and rainy day couldn’t hold down the spirit of the hundreds in attendance, as all who braved the less than ideal conditions enjoyed eight hours of spiritual music competition.  

From 10am to 4pm, eight praise and worship teams from all across the Delmarva Peninsula competed for $6,500 in prize money, all showcasing a broad spectrum musical style and technique.  In the end, the soaring vocals and rhythmic performance of the 10 member praise team from Philadelphia Pentecostal Apostolic Church entitled Musick, took home the top prize of $3,000.  The Milford Church of God Praise Band took 2^nd place, earning a $2,000 prize, and the Tabernacle Full Gospel Baptist Cathedral Praise Team from Wilmington, DE took home $1,000 for 3^rd place.   The competition for the top three spots was so tight that event organizer Mountaire Farms, along with the 3-person judging panel deemed adding a 4^th place position was necessary.  This additional spot was earned by the Cannon Mennonite Worship Team from Bridgeville, DE, who took home $500.

Rounding out the eight team field was the Harvest Baptist Church Praise Team from Salisbury, MD, the Crossroad Christian Church Praise Team from Dover, DE, the Epworth Praise Team from Rehoboth Beach, DE, and the New Jerusalem Holy Church Praise Team from Snow Hill, MD.  Each participating group had a total of 30 minutes to set-up and perform their pre-determined set list. Each performance was scored by a panel of three judges, with the highest grossing scores earning the top honors.  Judges scored nine categories using a 1 through 5 rating scale, with 5 being the highest.  Categories ranged from tone & technique to diction & balance. 

“How exciting it was to see and hear the myriad of talent perform on stage for the Mountaire Praise and Worship competition. Over the years we have hosted hundreds of talented musicians in a variety of venues to demonstrate choir, dance, solos, duets, quartets and musical instrumentals. All tempos of talent have been displayed on the altar and stage areas of Delmarva’s churches. And now we are featuring the artistry of bands and singers who are choreographed to Praise and Worship our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in words, music, and occasional dance.

A group of singers and musicians smaller in size than a full choir constitute the makeup of the Praise team. Each instrumentalist harmonizing in song and band sounds while moving about the stage in energetic activity to demonstrate the inward inspirational power of music in religion.
