2010 Scholarship Winners - DV & DE
Mountaire Farms of Delmarva & Delaware Awards:
Members of the Mountaire Family came together on Tuesday, July 20th at Doyle’s Family Restaurant in Selbyville, DE to honor the 2010 Mountaire DV & DE Scholarship Recipients. The Processing Operations, Live Operations, and Grain Departments, from both Delmarva and Delaware, held the cordial luncheon to present scholarship checks to this year’s honorees. This past spring hundreds of nominations were submitted to each department from all branches of Mountaire. Children and grandchildren of employees, growers and grain suppliers are all eligible to apply for the yearly $1,000 scholarships, creating a large pool of student applicants. This year’s crop of students was outstanding, making the selection process one of the toughest in recent memory. After careful deliberation, the Mountaire Scholarship committee was able to hand select this years recipients based on scholastic achievement and a demonstrated commitment to the communities in which they live, work, play and pray. All of our scholarship winners show a deep desire to further their education and all plan to use their academic knowledge to one day better their community. Mountaire Farms is proud of these exceptional students and wish them the best of luck in their college endeavors. And congratulations and job well-done to the parents, grandparents, and family members who contributed in raising and guiding these exceptional young adults.
The luncheon was led by Human Resources Director, Patrick Townsend. Following a brief welcome, the stage was turned over to guest speaker Cory Griffiths, a recent college graduate of Texas A&M and current Production Planner for Mountaire of Delmarva. Cory spoke on the importance of higher education and how it can be applied to the workplace; a fitting speech for the youngsters in attendance who, in just a few short weeks, will begin their own college careers.
After the buffet style lunch of chicken, tender roast beef, mashed potatoes, macaroni & cheese, green beans, corn bread, and an assortment of pies for dessert, it was time to introduce all of the 2010 scholarship winners. Presenting the DV Processing Operations Scholarship awards was Stephen Hand, Training & Development Manager DV. Dave Patey, Director of Live Operations DV & DE, made the presentations to the Live Operations award recipients, and Mark Mulholland, Director of Merchandising, presented the Grain Scholarship awards. Humberto Aristizabal, Complex H.R. Manager DE, was joined by Marissa Chavez, Training & Development Manager DE, in presenting the DE Processing Operations awards to the scholarship recipients.
