Waging War on Hunger:  March 10th Food Drive
Mountaire Farms and Sussex County American Legion Posts are teaming up for a one-day food drive to benefit the Mountaire Thanksgiving at Easter program, which will feed over 10,000 less fortunate individuals a nutritious meal this Easter Holiday.


(Millsboro, DE)  On Saturday, March 10th, Mountaire Farms and Sussex County American Legion Posts will continue to Wage War on Hunger.  From 10am to 3pm the duo will be conducting food drives at select super market locations across Sussex County, Delaware.   The food collected during the drive will benefit the Mountaire Farms Thanksgiving at Easter campaign, the goal of which is to feed over 10,000 area residents in need this Easter Holiday.

Volunteers from American Legion Post(s) 5, 6, 17, 19, 24 and 28 will be manning the entrances of participating stores to distribute food donation flyers and collect goods as they come in.  Priority needs include staple food items such as 16 oz. cans of corn, string beans, yams and stuffing mix.  Monetary donations will also be accepted, which will be used to purchase more staple food items for the program.

Wal-Mart Super Center – Seaford, DE
Harris  Teeter - Selbyville, DE
Harris Teeter - Millsboro, DE
Harris Teeter - South Bethany, DE

* Participating Harris Teeter locations will have un-manned collection barrels set-up for customers who wish to contribute to the program.


On Tuesday, April 2nd, all collected food items will be used to create over 1,000 meal boxes during Mountaire’s Thanksgiving at Easter packing day event.  All meal boxes will contain a plump Mountaire Roaster along with  (2) 16 oz. cans of corn and string beans, (1) can each of yams, baked beans, gravy and cranberry sauce, plus a box of stuffing mix.  The boxes will be packed by American Legion Post members at the Mountaire Farms Warehouse in Selbyville, Delaware.  Finished meal boxes with then be picked up by area churches who have pre-registered and will go to help feed members of their congregation who are in need.

About Mountaire’s Thanksgiving for Thousands Program(s):

The Mountaire Thanksgiving for Thousands program provides balanced holiday meals to those less fortunate households located throughout the Delmarva Peninsula.  In 2011 the non-profit effort helped feed over 50,000 people over the Thanksgiving Holiday and now the program is expanding to include other holidays.  This Easter Mountaire hopes to feed over 10,000 people a nutritious meal.  Meal boxes include a plump Mountaire Roaster,  (2) 16 oz. cans of corn and string beans, (1) can each of yams, baked beans, gravy and cranberry sauce, plus a box of stuffing mix .
