MARDELA HIGH SCHOOL SENIOR EARNS THE WBOC/MOUNTAIRE SCHOLAR ATHLETE AWARD

(Mardela Springs, MD) – On Monday, February 6th, Jamie Booze, a standout student-athlete at Mardela High School was presented with the WBOC/Mountaire Scholar Athlete of the Month Award.  For her efforts, the reining Bayside South Softball Player of the Year and honor roll student received a crystal engraved trophy, a banner to display at the school and a $1,000 college scholarship.

The WBOC/Mountaire Scholar Athlete of the Month Award is an honor reserved for those high school seniors who demonstrate excellence and leadership in three key arenas; athletics, academics and extra-curricular activities.

Athletically, Jamie Booze ranks as one of the best to ever attend Mardela High School.  As a four year starter and captain for the girl’s soccer team she has enjoyed three Regional championships, was named 1st Team Bayside South and voted onto the Bayside Senior All-Star Team.  On the softball diamond Jamie has been even more impressive.  Over her first three seasons she has dominated the pitcher’s mound, helping lead the lady warriors to 45 wins, back-to-back regional finals and the school’s first Bayside South Title.  Along the way Jamie was twice named 1st Team Bayside South, and of this before her senior season.

“From a coach’s standpoint, it is a great luxury to have Jamie toeing the rubber for our softball team.  The rest of the team feeds off her energy and enthusiasm for the game.  She is a fierce competitor, and her number one concern is for her team to be successful.” – Kory Shiles, Mardela High School Athletic Director.

Academically, Jamie is equally impressive.  She is a member of the National Honor Society, the Student Government Association treasurer, a Prom committee member and lead organizer on several Mardela High School events; including the breast cancer awareness soccer game and the blood drive.  Even with this full schedule, Jamie is still able to maintain a 4.3 GPA and take college level courses at Wor-Wic Community College.

It’s for these extraordinary accomplishments that Jamie Booze was honored as the WBOC/Mountaire Scholar Athlete of the Month for February 2012.
