Salisbury, MD – On Saturday, June 16th, beginning at 1:30pm, join Mountaire Farms and host E.J. Foxx of Cat Country 97.5 and 105.9 for the Mountaire Chickin’ Pickin’ Championship at the Delmarva Chicken Festival in Salisbury, MD!  The Mountaire Chickin’ Pickin’ Championship features 20 contestants from across Delmarva in a poultry meat picking and shredding competition requiring speed, a solid strategy, and a little luck; where the winner walks away with a cool $500 and in possession of the much coveted title of Mountaire Chickin’ Pickin’ Champion. NEW for this event, a 2nd place prize of $250 is now up for grabs.

To enter, just show up early.  Registration begins at 12:30pm at our staging area next to the main festival entrance located behind the Centre@Salisbury. Just look for the Cat Country remote tent.  Or you can sign-up in advance by sending us an e-mail with your information and why you think you would make a great competitor.  Send emails to Brian Patey at
bpatey@mountaire.com.  Once the field is locked, contestants will face off in 4 preliminary heats of 5 competitors each, with the winner of each heat advancing to the finals!  The four person finale is 5 minutes of meat picking pandemonium where only one will be crowned champion!

So just how does each round of Chickin’ Pickin’ work?   In the simplest terms, our winners are determined by who can pick and shred the most meat from our oven roasted chicken(s) in a 5 minute time frame.  Contestants will have access to an unlimited amount of cooked ‘birds, HOWEVER, they must pick and shred all the meat and skin from a single ‘bird before moving on to a new one.  That includes meat from the breast, thighs, legs, wings and back.  The picked meat is thrown into a collection tray, which gets weighed at competitions end to determine our winner. Contest judges are on hand to specify when a contestants ‘bird is deemed fully picked, thus allowing them to start a new one.  This process will go on for the entire (5) minutes. There can be zero bones or large chunks of meat in the collection tray.  Such items will be removed before being weighed. FYI, the average person can pick a single bird clean in approx. 90 seconds.
