Delmar High School Senior Mathew Waldman Honored with the WBOC/Mountaire Scholar Athlete of the Month Award
Delmar, DE – On Wednesday, April 25th representatives from Mountaire Farms presented Delmar High Schools’ Mathew Waldman with the WBOC/Mountaire Scholar Athlete of the Month Award for May 2012. Matt’s 4.4 weighted GPA and impressive athletic resume, which consists of varsity letters and awards in three sports, helped him stand out from other nominee’s for the May honor . For his efforts he received a crystal engraved trophy, a banner to display at his school and a $1,000 college scholarship.
The WBOC/Mountaire Scholar Athlete of the Month Award is an honor reserved for those high school seniors who demonstrate excellence and leadership in three key arenas; athletics, academics and extra-curricular activities.
Academically, Matt Waldman has excelled in every way imaginable. He currently holds a 4.437 weighted GPA thanks to his hard work in the honors and advanced placement courses. He routinely scores at the highest level in the states standardized testing and he is a member of the National Honor Society.
Athletically, Mathew has varsity letters in football, basketball and baseball, earning the “Sportsmanship Award” in football while holding down the offensive tackle position. This fall he plans to continue his career on the grid iron at East Carolina University.
Perhaps most impressive is Mathew’s extra-curricular activities. He is a section leader in the school band where he plays the trombone. He is the treasurer for the National Honor Society, a member of the Student Government Association, and has represented Delmar High School at the Hugh O’Brien Leadership Conference. His accolades have even earned him a spot on the Sussex County Youth Philanthropy Board which consists of a select group of students who obtain grants for local non-profits.
“A man of many talents and he’s just beginning his life adventure. Matt Waldman is a gifted performer in the areas, of athletics, academia, music and community communication. Will he meld those talents into the person he will become, or will he specialize in one of those talents? Only time will tell. And for now, he possesses the best of all worlds, the ability to perform in all of those talented arenas.
And there’s another gift that this big talented lineman has in his bag of blessings, he’s humble.
If we are to recognize one distinguishable similarity among the categories of excellence each sensational Scholar Athlete candidate possesses it is being a silently-humble leader.
Matt Waldman you are on your way and we are all watching to see where you will take us.” Roger Marino, Mountaire Communications and Community Relations Director.
For his outstanding achievements in the classroom, on the field and in his community, Mathew Waldman was honored as the WBOC/Mountaire Scholar Athlete of the Month for May 2012.
